Information Excess
From today until the end of this month, I’ll be limiting my time on the computer (including my iPhone). It’s a little experiment designed to remove myself from the deluge of information that I have somehow convinced myself is necessary.
This means:
- No thousands of items on Google Reader read every week.
- Setting a once-per-day-only time to send and respond to emails in lieu of phone calls and/or text messages.
- No websites that aren’t essential to research, writing or training. New wi-fi default: ”off”.
- Even less television than I already watch, which is less than two hours per week.
- No news via television, print, web, radio, podcasts, etc.
- Minimal instant messaging.
- The occasional film.
- Significantly more reading (and more focused).
- Significantly more writing, including to this and my other blog.
- Significantly more outside, even though I’m pretty much out all day everyday.
- Significantly more focus on the things that actually generate an income.
- More Wing Chun practice at home.
…and I would say more music, but, well, music pretty much surrounds me all day.
And so I’ll see how it goes! If I dig it, I’ll continue.
