Extraordinarily difficult for the unfocused.

Try this…

  1. Take a deep, long breath and shut your eyes.
  2. Keep them shut (your eyes, not your lungs — you’re allowed to breathe).
  3. Count to 500 at a pace no faster than two “beats” per second.
  4. Do not use any external means to help you keep track of your count, not even your fingers.
  5. You may pace yourself with your breathing, but no tapping or anything of that sort.

…now.

Did you finish? Could you finish? Were you patient enough? Did you lose count? Did your mind wander?

It’s incredible how difficult it is to complete such a seemingly simple task.

Of course, for some this will be easy. May the Ritalin be with you.

And also with you.
